Etiology: 1) horizontal visual field loss a) amaurosis fugax b) central retinal artery occlusion c) ischemic optic neuropathy d) giant cell arteritis 2) vertical visual field loss - lesion posterior to the optic chiasm - stroke 3) monocular visual field loss - retinal detachment 4) peripheral visual field loss - glaucoma 5) pharmaceuticals [2] - chloroquine - ethambutol - hydroxychloroquine - isoniazid - niacin Physical examination: - except for detection of homonymous hemianopia, visual field testing is insensitive for detecting visual field defects - referral to ophthalmology is suspicion of retinal detachment [1]
