Advantages: - assesses cued recall of pictorial stimuli - not dependent upon language Procedure: - the patient is shown 6 cue cards with familiar objects - the patient is then shown 6 association cards that show new interactions involving the familiar objects - finally, the patient is again shown the initial familiar objects & asked to identify the missing object - ref [2] shows examples of association cards Interpretation: - 12 point scoring system: - with cutoff of 7 - Sensitivity: 95.2% - Specificity: 96.0% - Positive predictive value: 55.6% - Negative predictive value: 99.7% - virtually nobody scoring >= 8 has dementia
