verruca plana (flat wart)
Etiology:
1) all warts are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV)
2) HPV types 3,10
3) HPV exposure in connection with superficial injury
Epidemiology:
1) children & young adults
2) contagious
Clinical manifestations:
1) generally occur on the extremities & face, especially eyelid
2) slightly raised sessile lesion
3) smooth, flat topped
4) skin-colored or slightly darker
5) trauma of shaving my produce autoinnoculation on the face [3]
Management:
1) watch & wait, some disappear with time
2) retinoic acid 0.05% solution or 0.5% cream
a) apply daily until desquamation occurs
b) local irritation is major adverse effect
3) topical salicylic acid, cryotherapy, imiquimod, laser therapy [3]
3) 5-fluorouracil for recalcitrant flat warts
