sucroferric oxyhydroxide (Velphoro)

Indications: - hyperphosphatemia in patients on hemodialysis Dosage: - start: 500 mg PO TID with each meal - tablets must be chewed not swallowed whole - tablets may be crushed - patients typically need 3 or 4 tablets/day - maximum: 1000 mg TID Tabs: 500 mg (chewable) Adverse effects: - diarrhea (6-24%) - dicolored feces (12-16%) - nausea Drug interactions: - coadministration of levothyroxine is contraindicated - coadministration of vitamin D is contraindicated - use caution with coadministation of alendronate or doxycycline Notes: - cost $855/month 2014
