- short-term vegan diet is associated with epigenetic age benefits & reduced calorie intake [4]
- an anti-inflammatory diet [5]
- dietary advanced glycation end-products are unchanged on a Mediterranean diet but decrease on a low-fat vegan diet [5]
- weight reduction [5]
- vegan diet linked with weight loss (average 8 pounds) & fewer severe hot flashes (92%) in menopausal women [6]
Complications:
- osteopenia, osteoporosis
- growth normal in infants raised vegan or vegetarian [7]
Management:
- strength training has a positive effect on bone health
