Clara cell phospholipid-binding protein; uteroglobin; CCPBP; Clara cells 10 kD secretory protein; CC10; secretoglobin family 1A member 1; urinary protein 1; UP-1; UP1; urine protein 1 (SCGB1A1, CC10, CCSP, UGB)

Function: - phospholipase A2 inhibitor - interacts with fibronectin - immunoregulatory and/or anti-inflammatory role - antagonist of neoplastic phenotype - binds phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) & weakly progesterone Structure: - homodimer; antiparallel disulfide-linked - belongs to the secretoglobin family Compartment: secreted Expression: - lung: non-ciliated airway epithelial cells - endometrium - higher in secretory than proliferative phase, expression is regulated by progesterone [5] - prostate - gene expression regulated by AP1, OCT & HNF3 transcription factors Pathology: - expression is lost during prostate cancer progression, in many lung carcinomas [4] & endometrial carcinoma - (lower levels corresponding to higher grades) Polymorphism: - different polymorphisms are associated: a) asthma b) pulmonary sarcoidosis Laboratory: - Clara cell protein 16 in serum
