true neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome (cervical rib & band syndrome, classic cervical rib syndrome)
A rare disorder in which the proximal lower trunk of the brachial plexus is compromoised by a translucent band extending from a rudimentary cervical rib to the first rib.
Found mostly in young to middle aged women.
Clinical manifestations:
- unilateral or bilateral hand wasting & weakness, particularly involving the lateral thenar eminence
- intermitttent discomfort along the medial forearm & hand
