Physiology:
- mesectodermal cell layer covering the blastocyst of the embryo
- the trophoblast erodes the uterine mucosa & provides nourishment to the embryo from the mother
- the trophoblast does not enter formation of the embryo itself but contibutes to the formation of the placenta
Pathology:
- gestational trophoblastic disease
Laboratory:
- invasive trophoblast Ag in serum/plasma
