Bax inhibitor 1; BI-1; testis-enhanced gene transcript protein; transmembrane BAX inhibitor motif-containing protein 6 (TMBIM6, BI1, TEGT)

Function: - suppressor of apoptosis - in mammalian cells, Bl-1 inhibits apoptosis induced by bax, growth factor deprivation, etoposide & staurosporine, but not fas. - interacts with BCL2 & BCL2L1/BCLX - BI-1 can interact with bcl-2 & bcl-XL but not bax or bak Structure: - belongs to the BI1 family - BI-1 is predicted to contain 6 or 7 transmembrane domains - found to be essentially identical to TEGT (testis enhanced gene transcript) Compartment: - membrane (potential) Expression: - highly abundant in testis
