Procedure:
- ear-clip arterial carbon dioxide measurements
Clinical significance:
- pulse oximetry plus transcutaneous CO2 monitoring may suffice for arterial blood gas unless pH is needed
Increases:
- metabolic alkalosis
- respiratory acidosis
Decreases:
- metabolic acidosis
- respiratory alkalosis
