Epidemiology:
- ~ 1/2 of high school students have tried tobacco (2013)
- ~25% current tobacco users [4]
- ~50% of current users used more than one tobacco product
- cigarettes, cigars, & smokeless tobacco are the most common products used
- electronic cigarettes were used at least once by 12%
- current use was more common among boys than girls
- ~20% of middle school students have tried tobacco (2013)
- ~7% current tobacco users [4]
- electronic cigarettes were used at least once by 3%
- current use similar between boys & girls [4]
Notes:
- flavored tobacco popular in teens [2]
- FDA is examining both the pros & cons of flavored tobacco products [5]
