Clinical significance: - useful marker of tumour activity in adult epithelial tumours [1] - serum levels elevated in children with Wilms' tumor & neuroblastoma [1] - levels elevated with liver disease (hepatoma, cirrhosis or chronic active hepatitis) [2] - levels higher than 200 U/L suggest pancreatic cancer vs chronic pancreatitis [3]
