toll/IL-1 receptor homologous region (TIR domain)

Cytoplasmic domain of approximately 200 amino acids found in Toll receptors & ILR1, involved in innate antibacterial & antifungal immunity. It mediates homotypic protein-protein interactions in signal transduction & directs localization of receptor(s) through interaction(s) with the cytoskeleton (putative). Proteins containing a TIR domain include: 1) interleukin-1 receptor family - IL18R1 2) myeloid differentiation factor (MyD88) {also contains a DEATH domain) 3) Toll-like receptors 4) plant proteins involved in the host response to infection
