Normal tidal volume with spontaneous respirations is 5 mL/kg. Procedure: - tidal volumes on ventilator are generally set to 500-700 mL - 6-8 mL/kg is usually safe starting point [3] - lower tidal volumes may reduce risk of ARDS [2] - start <= 6 mL/kg for ARDS [3]
