tidal volume (TV)
Normal tidal volume with spontaneous respirations is 5 mL/kg.
Procedure:
- tidal volumes on ventilator are generally set to 500-700 mL
- 6-8 mL/kg is usually safe starting point [3]
- lower tidal volumes may reduce risk of ARDS [2]
- start <= 6 mL/kg for ARDS [3]
