thyroid adenoma

Adenomas of the thyroid almost always present as solitary masses derived from follicular epithelium. Only rarely do the adenomas progress to malignant tumors. Genetics: - chromosomal translocations t(2;3)(p21;p25) & t(2;7)(p21;p15) involving THADA have been observed in benign thyroid adenomas; the fusion events probably result in truncated THADA proteins
