Function: thiosulfate + cyanide = sulfite + thiocyanate Structure: contains 1 rhodanese domain Compartment: - cytoplasm, perinuclear region - localized around the nuclear membranes Alternative splicing: named isoforms=4 Expression: - expressed in kidney, liver & skeletal muscle > heart, colon, thymus, spleen, placenta, lung > brain, small intestine, peripheral blood leukocytes Pathology: - possible role in tumorgenesis - expressed at high levels in the breast carcinoma cell lines MCF-7 & MDA-MB-468 & at a lower level in the breast carcinoma cell line MDA-MB-231, the colon carcinoma cell line LoVo & the lung carcinoma cell line A549 - no expression in the cell lines EFO27 & HeLa, or the normal breast tissue cell lines MCF-10A & H184A1 - detected in invasive ductal carcinoma, but not in the adjacent tissues
