mitochondrial dimethyladenosine transferase 2 (S-adenosylmethionine-6-N', N'-adenosyl(rRNA) dimethyltransferase 2, mitochondrial 12S rRNA dimethylase 2, mitochondrial transcription factor B2, mtTFB2, h-mtTFB2, h-mtTFB, hTFB2M, hepatitis C virus NS5A-transactivated protein 5, HCV NS5A-transactivated protein 5, TFB2M, NS5ATP5)
Function:
1) S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase
2) specifically dimethylates mitochondrial 12S rRNA at the conserved stem loop
3) required for basal transcription of mitochondrial DNA, probably via its interaction with POLRMT & TFAM
4) stimulates transcription independently of methyltransferase activity
5) compared to TFB1M
- activates transcription of mitochondrial DNA more efficiently
- has less methyltransferase activity
6) interacts with mitochondrial RNA polymerase POLRMT.
7) interacts with TFAM
Structure:
- belongs to the rRNA adenine N(6)-methyltransferase family. KsgA subfamily
Compartment: mitochondrion
Expression:
- ubiquitously expressed
- induced by the nuclear respiratory factors NRF1 & NRF2/GABPB2 & PGC-1 coactivators
General
methyltransferase
