Etiology: 1) hypocalcemia (low ionized Ca+2) a) hypoparathyroidism b) hyperventilation c) rickets 2) hypomagnesemia 3) uremia Pathology: - irritability of the central & peripheral nervous system Clinical manifestations: 1) fasciculations 2) muscle cramps 3) carpopedal spasms 4) laryngospasms, stridor when severe 5) seizures may occur
