A drug or bioagent that causes abnormal prenatal development. Notes: - commonly prescribed teratogens - ACE inhibitors - androgens, testosterone derivative - anticonvulsants - carbamazepine - phenytoin - primidone - valproic acid - SSRI: fluoxetine, paroxetine - folic acid antagonists: methotrexate - lithium carbonate - retinoids - statins - warfarin - pregnancy test prior to prescribing teratogen for woman of child-bearing age [2] - female adolescents prescribed teratogens receive inadequate contraception provision [3]
