Origin: temporal fossa
Insertion:
1) coronoid process of mandible
2) anterior border of ramus of mandible
Action:
1) elevates mandible (closes jaw)
2) its posterior fibers are the primary retractors of the protruded mandible
Innervation:
-> deep temporal branches of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (CN V)

skeletal muscle (voluntary muscle)
