transcription initiation factor TFIID subunit 7; RNA polymerase II TBP-associated factor subunit F; transcription initiation factor TFIID 55 kD subunit; TAF(II)55; TAFII-55; TAFII55 (TAF7, TAF2F, TAFII55)
Function:
- component of TFIID, both TFIID-alpha & TFIID beta (see TFIID)
- p55TFIID may be a co-activator that mediates transcriptional activation in response to Sp1, YY1, USF, adenoviral E1A, HIV-1 Tat, & other transcriptional activators
- interacts with TAFII250, TAFII100, TAFII28, TAFII20, & TAFII18, but not with TAFII30 or TBP
Structure:
- the [KR]-[STA]-K motif is specifically recognized by the SETD7 methyltransferase, which methylates Lys-5 in vitro
- belongs to the TAF7 family
- contains consensus sites for phosphorylation by PKC, cAMP protein kinase & casein kinase 2
