Procedure: - takes 2-3 minutes to administer - orientation (8 items) - attention (2 items) - memory: 3 registration; 3 delayed memory items Clinical significance: - sensitivity > MMSE, specificity < MMSE - faster to administer than MMSE - no need for paper & pencil - does not adequately screen for the cognitive deficits in subcortical dementias like AIDS dementia & Parkinson dementia
