supraspinatus test; Jobe's test;empty can test
Indications:
- test for rotator cuff tendonitis or rotator cuff tear involving the supraspinatus muscle
Procedure:
- with the patient standing, arm abducted to 90 degrees, brought forward 30 degrees, thumb pointing down, push distal part of outstretched arm down against resistance
- pain & weakness suggests rotator cuff tendonitis
- a positive drop sign suggest a rotator cuff tear
Interpretation:
- weakness or pain is a positive sign
- inability to slowly & steadily lower the arm completely; the arm drops to the side [2]
