Short-lasting Unilateral Neuralgiform headache attacks with Conjunctival injection & Tearing syndrome (SUNCT syndrome)
Clinical manifestations:
- headaches resemble other trigeminal autonomic cephalgias (cluster headache & paroxysmal hemicrania) except that attacks occur more frequently, 30-100/day & are much shorter in duration 20 seconds to 2 minutes
- periorbital pain (cranial nerve 6)
- autonomic symptoms
Differential diagnosis:
- trigeminal neuralgia (periorbital pain & autonomic symptoms in SUNCT syndrome)
Management:
- pharmaceutical agents
a) lamotrigine
b) gabapentin
c) topirimate
d) carbamazepine
