sulfinpyrazone (Anturane)

Tradename: Anturane. Indications: - hyperuricemia, gout Contraindications: - renal insufficiency - nephrolithiasis [4] Dosage: Gout: 100-200 mg PO BID. Tabs: 100 & 200 mg. Adverse effects: 1) common (> 10%) - nausea/vomiting, epigastric pain 2) less common (1-10%) - dermatitis, rash 3) uncommon (< 1%) - flushing, dizziness, headache, rash, anemia, leukopenia, increased bleeding time (decreased platelet aggregation), hepatic necrosis, urinary frequency, uric acid stones, nephrotic syndrome Mechanism of action: - uricosuric
