subdural hygroma
Subdural fluid collections that are clear or mildly xanthochromic. Subdural hygromas are simple if they occur alone or complex if they occur with parenchymal injury. Subdural hygromas may occur after head injury or after treatment of increased intracranial pressure in patients with Reye syndrome.
Clinical manifestations:
- similar to those of subdural hematoma
Management:
- surgery generally unnecessary for patients either stable or improving
