styloid process of radius (radial styloid process)

A thick pointed palpable projection on the lateral side of the distal extremity of the radius (approx. 1 cm more distal than the ulnar process). Since it extends more distally than the ulnar process, more ulnar deviation than radial deviation of the wrist is possible. - easier to palpitate when the thumb is abducted The relationship of the radial & ulnar process is Important in: - diagnosis of certain wrist injuries (e.g., Colles fracture)
