syntaxin-8 (STX8)

Function: - vesicle trafficking protein - functions in early secretory pathway, possibly by mediating retrograde transport from cis-Golgi membranes to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) - forms a SNARE complex with STX7, VTI1B & VAMP8 which functions in the homotypic fusion of late endosomes - part of SNARE core complex containing STX7, VAMP8 & VTI1B - interacts with VAMP8 (putative) Structure: - belongs to the syntaxin family - contains 1 t-SNARE coiled-coil homology domain Compartment: - membrane - preferentially associated with early endosome - to lesser extent, also present in late endosome, plasma membrane & coated pits (putative) Expression: - expressed in heart > brain, kidney, liver, lung, placenta, skeletal muscle, spleen & pancreas
