Etiology:
1) developmental
2) acquired
Epidemiology:
-> common developmental disorder
Pathology:
-> cerebral lesions in permanent acquired form
Clinical manifestations:
1) interruptions of normal speech by involuntary repetition
2) prolongation or arrest of uttered letters or syllables
3) acquired form (differs from developmental form)
a) prolongation & blocks are restricted to the initial syllables
b) no adaptation
c) not accompanied by grimacing
d) may be transient or permanent
