struma ovarii

Pathology: - thyrotoxicosis resulting from overactive ectopic thyroid tissue within a teratoma of the ovary - thyrotoxicosis persists until the ovarian tumor is surgically removed - most common in ovary but can be elsewhere throughout the peritoneum
