stratum lucidum

Clear layer. Occurrence: - the layer of epidermis just beneath the stratum corneum of the palms & soles (generally absent in other regions).* - it consists of 2 or 3 layers of flat clear cells with atrophied nuclei - layer of hippocampus containing basilar dendritic arborization of pyramidal cells. Structure: * Layers of epidermis (from the surface) include: 1) stratum corneum (keratin {horny} layer) 2) stratum lucidum (clear layer) <palms & soles> 3) stratum granulosum (granular layer) 4) stratum spinosum (prickle cell layer) 5) stratum basale (basal cell layer)
