single point cane (SPC, includes wooden cane, aluminum cane, offset cane)
Classification:
- wooden canes must be custom fitted for length
- aluminum canes are adjustable
- offset canes allow the patient's weight to be distributed over the shaft of the cane
Indications:
- osteoarthritis of the knee
- osteoarthritis of the hip
- peripheral neuropathy
Notes:
- provides lateral support
- assists with balance & propioception
- reduces weight-bearing on opposite leg
- helps with stability but offers no way to rest [3]
