Stokes-Adams-Morgagni syndrome

Episodes of syncope associated with high-degree AV block. Clinical manifestations: 1) little more than a momentary sense of weakness before sudden loss of consciousness 2) incontinence, bilateral Babinski's sign, fixed pupils, respiratory problems & cyanosis may occur with prolonged periods of asystole 3) recovery is generally prompt & complete 4) prolonged ischemia may result in: a) prolonged confusion b) memory impairment c) focal neurologic deficits are rare 5) episodes may occur several times/day 6) block is commonly transitory Special laboratory: - electrocardiogram: a) frequently normal b) ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation may follow a period of asytole
