Epidemiology:
- part of the normal flora of the skin of the human scalp, face, neck, scrotum, & ears
Pathology:
- has been associated with prosthetic valve endocarditis
- rarely associated with native valve infection
- may plat a role in prosthesis infections (total knee arthroplasty & total hip arthroplasty infections)
Laboratory:
- coagulase-negative Staphylococcus
