Origin:
-> internal walls of the pyramidal eminence in the tympanic cavity
Insertion:
-> neck of the stapes
Action:
1) dampens vibration of stapes
2) draws head of stapes backward in response to a loud noise (protective response)
Innervation: facial nerve (CN VII)
