Indications: - treatment of chronic pain - low back pain [4], leg pain [4], arm pain - sciatica - spinal stenosis - failed back surgery syndrome - complex regional pain syndrome - arachnoiditis - phantom pain - peripheral vascular disease - multiple sclerosis - spinal cord injury - stroke (investigational) [8] Contraindications: - not associated with a reduction in opioid use or nonpharmacologic pain interventions at 2 years [7] - associated with higher costs [7] - complications are common [7] Procedure: - a small pulse generator, implanted in the back, sends electrical pulses to the spinal cord
