Function: - receptor for somatostatin-14 & somatostatin-28. - coupled via pertussis toxin sensitive G proteins to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase - additionally, stimulates phosphotyrosine phosphatase & PLC via G proteins (both pertussis toxin sensitive & insensitive) - in RIN-5F cells, inhibits Ca+2 entry by suppressing voltage-dependent Ca+2-channels - C-terminus interacts with SHANK1 PDZ domain Structure: belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family Compartment: cell membrane Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 (SSTR2A, SSTR2B) Expression: - cerebrum & kidney - lesser expression in jejunum, colon & liver
