Origin: 1) posterior surface of head & upper 1/3 of shaft of fibula 2) oblique line & middle 1/3 of medial margin of tibia 3) tendinous arch passing between the tibia & fibula over the popliteal vessels Insertion: -> with gastrocnemius by the calcaneus tendon (Achilles tendon) into the tuberosity of the calcaneus Action: plantar flexion of foot Innervation: tibial nerve
