inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatase K; skeletal muscle & kidney-enriched inositol phosphatase (INPP5K, PPS, SKIP)
Function:
- inositol 5-phosphatase which acts on
a) inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate
b) inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate,
c) phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate
d) phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-triphosphate
- affinity for phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate 6-fold higher than for inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate
- may negatively regulate assembly of actin cytoskeleton
Structure:
- belongs to the inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate 5-phosphatase type II family
Compartment:
- endoplasmic reticulum
- following stimulation with EGF, translocates to membrane ruffles
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
Expression:
- ubiquitously expressed
- highest levels in skeletal muscle, heart & kidney
