Function:
1) transcriptional repressor
2) interacts with MXI1 to repress MYC responsive genes
3) antagonizes MYC oncogenic activities
4) interacts with MAD-MAX heterodimers by binding to MAD; heterodimer then represses transcription by tethering SIN3A to DNA
5) component of Sin3A corepressor complex
6) interacts with MBD2, SAP30, NCOR1, SDS3, MXI1, MAD, DACH1, HCFC1, SFPQ
7) component of complex consisting of HDAC1, PHF12 & SAP30
Structure:
- PAH domain 2 of mSin3A/mSin3B required for MAD & Mxi binding; first 25 aa of MAD also required.
