simple partial seizure
Clinical manifestations:
1) little impairment of consciousness - patient generally remains alert
2) single neurologic modality affected
- sensory, motor, olfactory, visual, gustatory
2) motor: small region of body, jacksonian, adversive, aphasia
3) sensory: any of the 5 senses
4) autonomic: cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal, genitourinary
Management:
- agents of choice
a) carbamazepine (Tegretol)
b) phenytoin (Dilantin)
