Reference interval: - 13-71 nmol/L (adult male) - 18-114 nmol/L (non-pregnant adult female) Increases: - hyperthyroidism - estrogen excess - thyroid hormone administration - anorexia nervosa - pregnancy - cirrhosis - aging Decreases: - hypothyroidism - testosterone excess - hirsutism - obesity - nephrotic syndrome - polycystic ovary syndrome Notes: - lower serum SHBG associated with modest reduction in all-cause mortality (RR=0.83-0.94) [11]
