Indications: - andropause - adrenarche, delayed puberty Decreases: 1) pharmaceutical agents -> glucocorticoids 2) clinical disorders -> adrenal insufficiency, primary or secondary 3) low serum DHEA-S levels predict cardiovascular events due to coronary artery disease (MI, acute coronary syndrome ..) in elderly men [7] - no association of serum DHEA-S & cardiovascular events due cerebrovascular disease (TIA, ischemic stroke) [7]
