septal nucleus
Structure:
- one of several nuclei between the fornix & the ventral surface of the corpus callosum, forming the medial wall of the frontal horn of the lateral ventricle
- it extends ventrally between the anterior commissure & the rostrum of the corpus callosum
- it is continuous caudally with the preoptic area & hypothalamus & laterally with the substantia innominata
Septal nuclei include:
1) medial septal nucleus
2) dorsal septal nucleus
3) lateral septal nucleus
4) septofimbrial nucleus
5) triangular nucleus of the septum
