Notes: - poor health ratings in elderly correlate with an increased risk of cognitive impairment within 10 years - good health ratings have not been associated with a decreased risk of cognitive impairment [1] - self-rated health is the best predictor of functional decline [1] - poor health ratings along with smoking, one of 2 strongest predictors of 5-year all-cause mortality in men - self-rated health best predictor of mortality [1,4] - self-reported health is not a good indicator of "true" population health status - elderly > 85 years of age have greatest likelihood of reporting 'fair to poor' subjective health status [1] - 66% if older Hispanics report 'good to excellent' health vs 80% of non-Hispanic whites [1]
