Etiology: - pharmaceuticals - NSAIDs, colchicine - endocrine neoplasms - carcinoid, gastrinoma, VIPoma - small intestinal bacterial overgrowth - bile acid malaborption - short bowel syndrome - villous adenoma Clinical manifestations: - watery nocturnal bowel movements - large volume - unchanged by fasting - dehyration Laboratory: - stool osmolality < 340 mosm/kg - serum elctrolyte disturbances - serum sodium: hyponatremia, serum potassium: hypokalemia Special laboratory: - colonoscopy to evaluate for villous adenoma
