Indications:
- early screening for syphilis infection in all pregnant women [3]
- all sexually active adults & adolecents at increased risk for sexually transmitted disease [1,2]
- USPSTF recommendations are for non-pregant women & adolecents
- high risk includes
- men who have sex with men
- people with HIV
- patients with a history of incarceration or commercial sex work
- men under age 29
- syphilis prevalence rates are highest among black, Hispanic, & American Indian/Alaska Native people
- areas in southern & western U.S., as well as urban settings have a higher prevalence than other areas [2]
Procedure:
- confirm screening VDRL or RPR with MHA-TP
