Indications:
- treatment of varicose veins
- hemorrhoids
- telangiectasias
- rectal prolapse
- esophageal sclerotherapy
- esophageal varices
- chemical pleurodesis
Procedure:
- injection of an irritant solution (sclerosing_agent)
- this induces thrombophlebitis which predisposes the varicosity to obliteration by thrombosis
- subsequent fibrosis/scarring completes the remodeling process
- sclerosing agents:
- sodium tetradecyl sulfate
