Schaeffer collaterals

The 3rd fiber pathway of the trisynaptic circuit through the hippocampal formation. Fibers originate from pyramidal cells in the CA3 region of the hippocampus & synapse on pyramidal cell dendrites in the CA1 region of the hippocampus. Long-term potentiation (LTP) is observed in association with the Schaeffer collaterals.
