scaphoid bone (navicular bone of hand)

One of the 8 carpal bones in the hand, the largest of the bones in the proximal of the 2 rows, on the lateral (radial) side. Articulations: 1) radius 2) lunate 3) capitate 4) trapezium 5) trapezoid Notes: - in the older literature, the term navicular may be used in reference to the scaphoid bone (although the navicular bone is a bone of the foot)
